Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Julie immigrated to Canada in 1975 with her parents and two siblings. Raised in the city of Ottawa, the Nation's Capital, Julie attended the University of Ottawa and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English. She immediately began working in her field as a Mental Health Worker and broadened her experience by serving as a Case Manager and Rehabilitation Educator for persons with acquired brain injury.
Early in her career, Julie noted the desperate need for a comprehensive anger program that would serve people with varying needs and levels of literacy. Through her company, BODA reLEAF consulting, she developed the Anger Solutions program, and began using it with her clients, with amazing results. She refined the program to be flexible, portable, and effective across client populations, and then began training other counsellors in the program methodology. Today, over 200 counsellors have received their certification, and Anger Solutions is being practiced with continued success across Canada and in the Caribbean.
In 1999 Julie became a Certified Public Speaker with Pryor Resources International, and went on the road, facilitating seminars and workshops across the Northeastern United States, and several Canadian provinces. She published her first book, Top Ten Lists to Live By that same year, and then released her first audio CD, Getting Past Your Past in 2001.
In 2003, Julie published Anger Solutions, a self-help version of her highly successful program. She has successfully applied Anger Solutions principles into every program she facilitates, including her corporate offerings, earning her the nickname, “Oprah for the Office”.
Julie published her third work, Stress Less in 27 Days in June of 2008, and in 2009, re-branded her company under the name of Leverage U.
While Julie continues to train Anger Solutions Facilitators, Coaches, and Master Trainers, she maintains a steady schedule balanced between providing Anger Solutions coaching services to individual clients and speaking at conferences and events.
